Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, demons, and malevolent powers expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
Episode 3 concluded with a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the main group to embark on their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.
This warrior group includes the determined fighter (played by Travis), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
With an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before dividing into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
Per the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.
Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might seem unsuited, but the developments of the third episode demonstrate why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the team knows exactly where to go next after a intense first encounter with the antagonists.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise started the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his own means, entering the secret base, attacking Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.
The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and fled to a secure base in the northern region, above the urban center, with Cyd pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to exit Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, wants revenge.
- The adventurer knows Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous environment.
- The strong character and The healer, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their status as prominent individuals in the influential clan could assist the team access areas they usually can’t.
- Moreover, Teor swore a eternal obligation to The savior for his deliverance and will now accompany him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
- The strong figure and The healer turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- The target is targeted for elimination by the family.
This results in them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in quest for Casimir.
